The historic façade of the Wheatsheaf Inn, circa 1900, has been meticulously hand-painted on a wooden board and displayed beneath the archway. In those days, patrons could hire horse-drawn traps while enjoying the renowned stout brewed by Phipps & Co., which was established in 1801 by Pickering Phipps in Towcester. Brewing operations commenced in Northampton in 1817, and a new brewery was constructed in Towcester in 1874.
